A few days ago, I posted the blog, Voting Records of the Chris Carrier Administration, more or less as a prelude to today’s blog. It didn’t show me much, besides the fact that the three members of our current council (Mayor Cooper, Mike Edwards, and Ian Chadwick) were in agreement with then Mayor Carrier’s recorded votes, the vast majority of the time.
In this blog, I will take a look at the recorded votes of our current Council. Why are “recorded votes” so important? Councillor Chadwick put it well when he wrote,
“It is usually reserved for significant items or contentious items. If every vote is recorded, we have no way of marking those. When you scan the minutes, recorded votes stand out. When they are all recorded, nothing stands out.”
So let’s see who agreed with who (or is it whom?)

These is one thing that really sprung out at me when looking at these recorded votes. Council voted unanimously on all 12 recorded votes of 2012, prior to the departure of then CAO Kim Wingrove. In all, the last 16 recorded votes of Wingrove’s employ were all unanimous)
Conversely, in the first 16 recorded votes of former Acting-CAO Ed Houghton’s employ, only 5, or 31% were unanimous. During Houghton’s entire time as Acting-CAO, there were a total of 31 recorded votes, and only 9, or 29% were unanimous.
